Gear ratios are different the input shaft for a Ford has fewer splines and a little over a half inch longer, and Ford trans are over 2 inches longer. The GM Trans can handle a little more torque at 450 lbs vs Ford at 400 pounds. The bellhousings of course are different bolt up.
