I picked up a T56 6 speed out of a LT-1 Camaro I believe. I got it nice and cheap from a guy that had it setting around for almost 9 years and didn't really know what it was or what it was worth. I am going to mate it to my 289 that's going in my 36 Ford truck. It's going to put me even further behind in regard to getting it on the road. It's alot of work to make it fit but, I really like the idea of the 6 speed and the final gear of 1:00 to .50 and a 4:11 rear end with 31 inch tires. I will be able cruise at 80 MPH at around 2,500 RPM's. I am going to have to cut the X center out of the frame and fabricate new rails and mounts and still maintain the split bones hook up under transmission. It will be be alot of fun trying to get everything into an already shortened frame. Then I will have a big three drive train. Ford Engine, Chevy Trans, and 8 3/4 Mopar posi rearend which wasn't really a goal kinda the way it's turning out. Pretty excited about it. I need to get the bell housing before I start the alterations.

Are there any difference in the T56 for a chevy vs the T56 for a Ford?

Gear ratios are different the input shaft for a Ford has fewer splines and a little over a half inch longer, and Ford trans are over 2 inches longer. The GM Trans can handle a little more torque at 450 lbs vs Ford at 400 pounds. The bellhousings of course are different bolt up. You can go to www.5speedtransmissions.com/6_speed.html and it will give some good comparisons.

Turns out I would have to change the front plate and front shaft so I have it up on craigs for sale. I could use for my Nova but I need the money for my Ford Truck.
